Volleyball Falls to (RV) Blugolds

Eau Claire, WI – (RV) University of Chicago volleyball fell in a competitive battle in their first day at the 2024 Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament. Though both teams tied in most stats, the receiving votes Blugolds managed to capitalize on UChicago's small mistakes.

RESULTS
 (RV) Wisconsin-Eau Claire – 3 (19, 25, 25, 25)
(RV) UChicago – 1 (25, 23, 23, 23)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons were in full control taking the first set by the largest margin of victory the entire game, six points. When taking the lead off six back-to-back points in the middle of first set, UChicago's Cheung stayed composed at the serving line.
  • Though both teams had 55 assists and 65 digs, the Maroons fell short of the Blugolds 58 kills by three. In total attacks, UWEC had about 10 more chances than Chicago.
  • Thalita Marangon led the Maroons in kills and digs. The Brazilian native has shown her consistent effectiveness on both sides of the floor for the Maroons. Dia Mishra finished with the second- highest amount of kills, 12, and Peyton Minyard right behind her with 10.

WHO'S ON DECK
The Maroons will finish out the Sandy Schumacher Saturday afternoon with back-to-back matches starting at 2 pm. They'll first face St. Catherine, then an aggressive Concordia College (Minn.)
