Track & Field Compete at Cardinal Opener

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The University of Chicago men's and women's track and field teams delivered strong performances at the NCC Cardinal Opener hosted by North Central College. Competing against a field of competitive teams, the Maroons showcased their depth and talent across multiple events.

Women's Highlights

  • Nora Holmes captured first place in the 1-mile run with a commanding time of 5:09.58. The Maroons dominated the event, with Maggie Horn (5:13.72, 2nd), Estelle Snider (5:16.96, 3rd), Rose Wiltse (5:28.47, 5th), Kendyl Cardwell (5:33.44, 8th), and Sophie Tedesco (5:35.01, 9th) all finishing in the top 10.
  • Gabri Meschino sprinted to victory in the 60-meter dash finals, clocking in at 7.80 seconds.
  • In the 400-meter dash, Ren Brown claimed first place with a time of 57.25, and Ava Hagwell (1:01.21) and Chloe Hayden (1:01.78) contributed additional points with top-five finishes.
  • Elisabeth Camic led a strong performance in the 800 meters, crossing the line first in 2:17.90. She was followed by teammates Emma Kelly (2nd), Rachel Singer (3rd), and Anna Watson (4th) to round out an impressive showing.
  • In field events, Libby Mulvaney and Sammi Dunn both cleared 1.58 meters in the high jump, finishing first and second, respectively.
  • Marina Semple dominated the long jump with a mark of 5.49 meters.
     

The women's team capped the day with a decisive victory in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing in 4:13.95.
 

Men's Highlights

  • Andrew Ray earned top honors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.02, while Nathaniel Stuit finished close behind in second place (51.53).
  • Quint Stein claimed victory in the 800 meters, posting a time of 1:58.48, with teammates Vincent Crenshaw (2nd), Caleb Krueger (3rd), and Malcolm McCormick (4th) contributing to a Maroons sweep of the top four spots.
  • In the 60-meter dash, Myles Xavier earned second place with a speedy 6.97 seconds.
  • Simon Dixon led the Maroons in the throws, taking second in both the shot put (14.95m) and weight throw (16.36m).
  • In the high jump, Imran Serifovic cleared 1.96 meters to secure second place, and Alexander Burt placed fourth (1.78m).
  • Seyi Kadiri and Daniel Hernandez shone in the triple jump, finishing third (13.71m) and fourth (13.22m), respectively.
     

The men's 4x400-meter relay team finished second overall, clocking in at 3:35.03 to conclude a successful outing.

Looking Ahead

Both teams will aim to build on this strong showing as they prepare for the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open on Saturday, January 18. The Maroons demonstrated exceptional depth and resilience, setting the stage for a promising season ahead.
