CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago football team picked up its fourth consecutive victory in a dominating performance with a 66-0 victory over Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons improve to 4-0 in Midwest Conference play for the first time since they won the UAA with a 4-0 record in 2000.
The 66-point margin was UChicago's largest and highest scoring output since 2021. The shutout for the UChicago defense also marks the first time since 2023 that UChicago has recorded back-to-back shutouts.
The Maroons opened the game by holding the Lawrence offense to just 37 yards and without a first down on their first seven drives of the game.
The UChicago offense opened the game strong, driving straight down the field, but a red zone interception halted the momentum momentarily. The Maroons bounced back quickly, however, asÂ
Jake Lowry capped the ensuing drive with a 10-yard touchdown run andÂ
Jack Ruff foundÂ
Colin Argue for a 72-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 14-0.
Defense was key to extending the lead asÂ
Cole Ostendorf forced a fumble andÂ
Jacob Smith recovered it on the opening play of the next Lawrence drive. The Maroons would score again just two plays later with a 6-yard touchdown run byÂ
Miles Parlet. Then,Â
Houston Weathers recorded a strip sack on the third play of the next drive, setting up a 27-yard touchdown run by Lowry to extend the lead to 28-0 heading into the halftime locker room.
Morrison Giggetts opened the second half with a bang as he returned the opening kickoff 81 yards before being tripped up at the four-yard line to set up the UChicago offense in the red zone. They would score on the following play asÂ
Jack Ruff foundÂ
Luke Degner at the pylon for the score. After forcing a three-and-out, the Maroons would drive straight down the field again with a 13-play, 72-yard touchdown drive, capped off by a 9-yard touchdown run byÂ
Max Ruff.
The Maroons would continue their offensive onslaught, scoring on all six of their drives in the second half.Â
Max Ruff foundÂ
Timothy Battaglia for the 3-yard score, andÂ
Avondre Kelley ran in the final two touchdowns from 7 yards and 34 yards to close out the game.Â
Walter Kilgore would also add a 50-yard field goal, the third field goal of 50 yards or more in his short career as a Maroon, to cap off the 66-0 victory.
The Ruff brothers led the UChicago offense again, with each of them recording a touchdown pass for the third consecutive game. Jack threw for 163 yards and 2 scores on 8-13 passing, and Max added 73 yards and a score on 5-7 passing. Max also ran the ball for 20 yards and a touchdown.
Avondre Kelley became the first Maroon to eclipse 100 rushing yards in seven games.Â
Jake Lowry also added 93 yards and 2 scores.Â
Colin Argue led the receiving attack with 3 catches for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Cole Ostendorf led the defensive attack for the Maroons with 7 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.
With the win, the Maroons improve to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in Midwest Conference play. UChicago will look to improve 5-0 in conference play for the first time since the National Championship season in 1913 as they host the Ripon Red Hawks at 12 PM on Saturday, October 18.
