Men's Soccer Opens UAA Play on Saturday Against NYU

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's soccer team returns to their home pitch on Saturday morning at 11 AM as they host the New York University Violets in the UAA opener. * The Maroons enter the weekend with a 6-1-3 record on the season, and they are riding a four-match winning streak with win over #17 UW-Eau Claire (4-2), Albion (5-0), Kalamazoo (2-0), and Carthage (3-0).
* UChicago is riding an 9-game unbeaten streak, tied for the 7th-longest streak in program history. The Maroons have outscored opponents 18-3 in that stretch, and they have scored 14 goals without allowing a goal in the past 351 minutes.
* The Maroons pulled off their first two-goal comeback win since 2019 when they turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 victory with four goals in the final 50 minutes against #17 UW-Eau Claire.
* Evan Kanellos leads the Maroons in goals this season with four penalty kick goals and two game-winning goals against MSOE, Hope, and Albion. He is one of only four players in the country to have four penalty kick goals in 2025.
* Ali Alamery made 10 saves en route to his first career clean sheet in the 0-0 draw with St. Olaf. His 10 saves are the most by a UChicago goalkeeper since 2012.
* Alamery also became the first UChicago goalkeeper since Will Boyes in 2022 to record four consecutive clean sheets.
* Alamery leads the UAA with 29 saves. He also ranks 3rd in NCAA Division III and 2nd in the UAA with six clean sheets on the season.
* Edward Wu has been the top assist leader for UChicago with three assists on the year, including the game-winning assist on Tuesday.
* After Saturday's UAA opener, the Maroons will take a week off before traveling to Pittsburgh to battle Carnegie Mellon.

NEW YORK UNIVERSITY NOTES: 

* NYU comes into the weekend with a 1-5-1 record on the season.
* The Violets have dropped back-to-back games against Montclair State (3-1) and Stevens (3-2) coming into UAA play.
* Terra Nagai and Ethan Zarka lead the NYU attack with 3 goal each on the season.
* Nagai also joins Audric Ma with a team-high 2 assists for the Violets.
* In goal, Ludvig Hilberts and Jackson McCloskey have each seen action, combining for 22 saves and 13 clean sheets with a GAA of 1.92
* Following their UAA opener against the Maroons, the Violets will return to the road for a non-conference showdown with Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday.

SERIES HISTORY:

* UChicago holds an all-time series advantage of 19-14-4 over the Violets.
* The Maroons brought home a 2-1 win over NYU last season in Newark.
* The Violets have picked up just one win over the Maroons in the last 11 meetings with UChicago holding a 9-1-1 advantage and a goal differential of 20-3.
* The first-ever meeting between these two sides came in 1987 when they played to a 4-4 draw at Stagg Field.
* The Maroons hold an all-time record of 11-5-2 on their home field against the Violets.
