CHICAGO -- University of Chicago graduate students Shane Regan and Nick Roper each earned Preseason All-American honors, as announced by d3hoops.com on Thursday afternoon.

Regan and Roper are the first players in University of Chicago basketball history to earn Preseason All-American honors since the award was introduced in the 2010-11 season.

Regan earned 1st-Team Preseason All-American honors after a successful four-year career at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where he averaged 14.9 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, and 2.7 assists per game. The Larchmont, New York native was named a 3rd-Team All-American by d3hoops.com last season, and he also ended his career as a 2-time 1st-Team All-Region and a 2-time 1st-Team All-NESCAC player. Regan also broke the all-time record with 559 points scored in a season while leading the Cardinals to a program-record 30 wins and the first Final Four appearance in program history. In his breakout senior season, Regan was named to the Top-25 for the Bevo Francis Award, given to the player who has the best season among players in Division II, Division III, and NAIA men's basketball.

Roper was named a 2nd-Team Preseason All-American after leading Illinois Wesleyan University to a 79-34 record and a pair of Sweet 16 berths during his time with the Titans. The St. Louis, Missouri native finished his career with 10.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game during his career. Roper was a 2nd-Team CSC Academic All-American in 2025, and he was a 2-time 2nd-Team d3hoops.com All-Region selection and 2-time 1st-Team NABC All-District honoree in 2024 and 2025.

The Maroons' duo make up two of the five players from the University Athletic Association to earn Preseason All-American honors, joining Jair Knight (1st-Team) and Ben Pearce (2nd-Team) from Emory as well as Connor May (4th-Team) from WashU.

Regan, Roper, and the rest of the UChicago men's basketball team enter the season ranked as the #11 team in NCAA Division III. The Maroons open their regular season slate on Saturday, November 15, as they welcome UC Santa Cruz, Trinity (TX), and Emory for the Midway Classic.
