CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's volleyball team placed five individuals on the 2025 All-Association Team, as released by the University Athletic Association on Tuesday morning.
Freshman
Ellie Maxwell highlighted the awards for the Maroons as the first-year was named the Rookie of the Year in the UAA. The Nashville, Tennessee native is the first UChicago player since Annabella Pinton in 2016 and the third player in program history to earn Rookie of the Year honors for the Maroons. Maxwell wrapped up her freshman season with a team-high 485 assists and 38 service aces while appearing in 28 of the 29 matches. She also tallied 183 digs on the defensive end to round out an exceptional freshman campaign.
Diya Mishra led the Maroons as the lone 1st-Team All-UAA selection to round out her four-year career with four All-UAA selections. Mishra was the catalyst for UChicago all year long as the Seattle, Washington native led the team with 348 kills and 263 digs. She also tallied 27 blocks and 34 service aces in an excellent senior season. Mishra rounded out her career ranked 7th in school history with 1,160 kills, 7th with 316 blocks, 11th with 2,748 attacks, and 12th with a 0.244 hitting percentage.
UChicago added a pair of 2nd-Team All-UAA honorees including
Thalita Marangon and
Gabi Spellings. Marangon tallied 180 kills, 161 digs, and 20 service aces to go along with 38 blocks for the Maroons. Spellings played just 22 games for the Maroons, but she made her presence felt with 14 solo blacks and 58 total blocks to rank second on the team. The Austin, Texas native also tallied 105 kills with a .255 hitting percentage in the middle for her first career All-UAA selection.
Hillary Cheung and
Olivia Zamis rounded out the All-UAA selections for the Maroons with the duo adding Honorable Mention honors. Cheung had an exceptional season as a setter with 481 assists, and the Palo Alto, California native led the team with 41 service aces and 5.01 assists per set. Cheung wraps up her career ranked 11th in program history with 1,246 assists. Zamis capped off her freshman season with an excellent year in the middle as the first-year tallied 120 kills and a 0.153 hitting percentage. The Wheaton, Illinois native also led the defensive in the middle with a team-high 88 blocks and 0.95 blocks per set.
The University of Chicago women's volleyball team capped off the season with a 15-14 record and the UAA Regular Season title with a 6-1 record in conference play. The Maroons placed fourth in the UAA Tournament with a win over Rochester before falling to Carnegie Mellon and NYU in the final two rounds.
