Women's Volleyball Places Four on CSC Academic All-District Team

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's volleyball team placed four student-athletes on the CSC Academic All-District Team, as announced by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday afternoon.

The Maroons earning Academic All-District honors include economics and data science double major, Klaudia Barbarossa; management master's student, Hillary Cheung; biological sciences major, Diya Mishra; and history, philosophy, and social studies of science & medicine and english language & literature double major, Gabi Spellings.

Klaudia Barbarossa was named to the Academic All-District Team after a career-best season for the senior defensive specialist. Barbarossa tallied career-highs with 69 assists and 25 service aces, and her 254 digs ranked second on the team and as the second-most in her career. The Saratoga, California native tallied a season-high 18 digs twice against Lawrence and WashU, and she wraps up her career with totals of 888 digs, 87 service aces, and 165 assists.

Hillary Cheung earned Academic All-District recognition after an exceptional season as one of the two UChicago setters. The Palo Alto, California native tallied 481 assists and led the team with 41 service aces and 5.01 assists per set. The graduate student wraps up her four-year career as a Maroon ranked just outside the top-10 in UChicago history for career assists with 1,246.

Diya Mishra garnered Academic All-District honors after being the lone 1st-Team All-UAA selection for UChicago in 2025. She is the first player in University of Chicago volleyball history to earn All-UAA honors in all four seasons as a Maroon after earning 1st-Team honors in 2022, 2023, and 2025 and 2nd-Team honors in 2024. Despite missing five games due to injury, the Seattle, Washington native led the team with 348 kills, 3.74 kills per set, 399 points, 4.29 points per set, 263 digs, and 2.83 digs per set. She also tallied 27 blocks and 34 service aces to round out a great all-around season. The biological sciences major wraps up her four-year career ranked top-12 in several career categories, including 7th with 1,160 kills, 7th with 316 blocks, 11th with 2,748 attack attempts, and 12th with a 0.244 hitting percentage.

Gabi Spellings was selected to the Academic All-District Team after earning 2nd-Team All-UAA honors as one of the top middles in the association. Spellings tallied 14 solo blocks and 58 total blocks, ranking second on the team in both categories, despite missing seven games with injury to open the season. The Austin, Texas native also tallied 105 kills and a .255 hitting percentage, the highest amongst attackers, en route to earning her first career All-UAA selection.

CSC Academic All-District Team honorees are selected by the national organization based on combined academic and athletic performance. Nominees must have a GPA above 3.50 in at least their sophomore year and have played in 90% of their team's games or have started 67% of their team's games. Diya Mishra will be the lone Maroon advancing to the Academic All-America ballot, which will be voted on by sports information directors nationwide. The 2025 Academic All-America Team will be announced on Tuesday, January 13.
