ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The University of Chicago men's and women's track and field teams both turned in impressive performances at the 2025 Lewis Invitational. With remarkable individual efforts and a strong team showing, UChicago athletes showcased their speed, strength, and teamwork throughout the meet.
Men's Track & Field Highlights
Sprints:
The 60-meter preliminaries saw Jackson Giampa and John Lui perform strongly in Heat 1, with Giampa finishing 13th in 7.12 seconds and Lui in 16th at 7.20 seconds. Gabe Eribo also competed but placed 24th in 7.34 seconds. In Heat 2, Lui maintained his 16th place with a time of 7.20 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Lui continued his competitive run, securing 11th place in 22.86 seconds, while Giampa finished 15th at 22.93 seconds. Zach Montbach placed 30th with a time of 23.82 seconds, and other runners did not finish or participate in their respective heats.
400 meters:
Andrew Ray highlighted the event with a strong 2nd place finish in 49.26 seconds, followed by Isaac Dienstag (6th, 50.86 seconds) and Ben Showman (7th, 51.11 seconds). Tyson Fuller took 9th (51.54 seconds), while Kazuma Morris finished 21st (52.96 seconds).
800 meters:
Quint Stein and Vincent Crenshaw led the way for UChicago, with Stein finishing 4th in 1:55.25 and Crenshaw placing 9th in 1:56.15.
Mile:
Freshman Isaac Cohen was UChicago's top performer, placing 9th with a time of 4:19.52. Senior Caleb Krueger, along with Zane Gillan and Malcolm McCormick, finished 26th, 28th, and 29th, respectively. The team demonstrated strong resilience in the face of tough competition.
3000 meters:
Sanju Patel clinched the win with a time of 8:33.41, closely followed by Gavin Fowler (2nd, 8:34.13), L'Iam Eifert (3rd, 8:35.53), and Spencer May (4th, 8:35.81). Giacomo Mevio and Rishi Young also turned in solid performances, finishing 15th and 16th, respectively.
Hurdles & Relays:
Kyle Obermeyer made a strong showing in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 5th in 8.75 seconds, while Matthew Ho placed 7th (8.88 seconds). Obermeyer advanced to the finals after securing 4th in Heat 1 (8.73 seconds) and Ho placed 5th in Heat 2 (8.76 seconds).
The 4x400 relay was another highlight, with the UChicago A team clinching 1st place in 3:19.95, made up of Benjamin Showman, Isaac Dienstag, Tyson Fuller, and Andrew Ray. The B and C teams finished 4th and 6th, respectively.
Field Events:
In the high jump, Aryan Shrivastava cleared 1.97 meters to place 2nd, while Josh Eckman cleared 1.87 meters for 6th. William Floyd posted a strong 2nd-place finish in the pole vault at 4.42 meters. Simon Dixon had a strong showing in the shot put, placing 2nd with a throw of 15.89 meters and in the weight throw, Dixon finished 2nd again with 17.30 meters.
Women's Track & Field Highlights
Sprints:
Gabri Meschino had a standout performance in the 60 meters, securing 3rd place in the finals with 7.88 seconds after running 7.93 seconds in the preliminaries. Arielle Troadec also made it to the 60-meter finals, finishing 7th with 8.00 seconds after a solid prelim performance of 7.99.
In the 200 meters, Alexandra Watson led the way with a 7th-place finish in 26.30 seconds, while Meschino (26.73) and Troadec (26.74) also posted competitive times.
400 meters:
Ava Hagwell impressed with a 2nd-place finish in 59.01 seconds, followed closely by Sharona Schwab in 3rd (59.65). Chloe Hayden rounded out the top finishes in 5th with 1:00.56.
Middle Distance:
Claudia Harnett delivered an exceptional performance in the 800 meters, winning with a time of 2:11.51. Emma Kelly finished 3rd in 2:15.50, followed by Elisabeth Camic (2:15.70) and Ren Brown (2:16.16), rounding out the strong UChicago performances.
Mile:
Maggie Horn finished 7th in the mile with a time of 5:02.63. She was followed by Eva Devlin (5:11.81) and Laura Baeyens (5:18.11).
3000 meters:
Sophie Tedesco placed 2nd with a time of 10:25.17, while Rose Wiltse finished 3rd in 10:27.61.
Relays:
The 4x400 relay saw the UChicago A team dominate, winning in 3:53.62, made up of Sharona Schwab, Ava Hagwell, Chloe Hayden, and Ren Brown. The B team (Emma Blodgett, Alexandra Watson, Onese Ewherido, Claudia Harnett) finished 5th in 4:07.70, while the C team (Nicole Roesler, Emma Kelly, Alexa Shepherd, Rachel Singer) placed 6th in 4:10.38.
Field Events:
In the high jump, Libby Mulvaney finished 3rd with a clearance of 1.62 meters, while Selah Dungey and Sammi Dunn tied for 4th with 1.52 meters. In the pole vault, Ardement Martino and Reece Baker both cleared 3.31 meters, finishing 4th.
