#24 Men's Basketball Holds Off Late Push from Judges

Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. - In a hard-fought battle at Red Auerbach Arena in Waltham, Massachusetts, the University of Chicago men's basketball team came away with a 75-69 victory over Brandeis University on Friday afternoon. The win improves the Maroons' record to 15-5 overall and 6-3 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while Brandeis drops to 13-7 and 4-5 in UAA play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons controlled the game from the start, storming to a 45-26 lead at halftime. A stellar first-half shooting display helped UChicago shoot 56.3% from the field, including 50% from beyond the arc, while limiting Brandeis to just 30% shooting and a cold 15.8% from three-point range.
  • Senior Thomas Kurowski led the way for UChicago, finishing with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Daniel Cochran added 17 points and 12 rebounds, anchoring the Maroons' inside presence. Joe Berry chipped in 10 points, while Eamonn Kenah contributed 10 points and 5 assists.
  • Brandeis made a strong push in the second half but the Maroons maintained their composure. UChicago's defense stiffened just enough to prevent the Judges from completing the comeback.
  • UChicago held a significant 44-36 advantage in points in the paint, and they capitalized on Brandeis' 10 turnovers, scoring 8 points off those miscues. Despite the Judges' surge in the second half, the Maroons never let the lead slip and managed to hold off Brandeis for the important UAA win.
  • Off the bench, Noah Pit was a key contributor with 12 points in just 21 minutes, including two made three-pointers. UChicago's bench, which scored 14 total points, provided critical support throughout the game.
