HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was tightly contested from start to finish, with both teams exchanging leads multiple times. WashU came out strong in the first half, shooting 46.88% from the field, and built a slim 35-40 lead by the break. However, the Maroons had a strong second-half performance that saw them pull away late, outscoring WashU 36-33 in the final 20 minutes.
  • Senior  Thomas Kurowski had a monster game, pouring in 32 points on 12-of-25 shooting, including 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. He also added six rebounds and two assists, leading the Maroons both offensively and defensively. Joe Berry also contributed significantly, finishing with 18 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Together, they spearheaded UChicago's scoring attack, particularly in the second half when the team needed it most.
  • The Maroons were also efficient from the free-throw line, making 15 of their 20 attempts (75%), a key factor in maintaining their lead.
  • UChicago's defense held WashU to just 43.5% shooting overall and forced 10 turnovers, which helped generate 8 points off turnovers. Additionally, UChicago capitalized on WashU's struggles from three-point range, where the Bears shot just 30.4% (7-23).
  • Though WashU managed to keep the game close throughout, UChicago's offensive depth and superior free-throw shooting proved to be the difference as the Maroons closed the game strong. Jackson Piotrowski added nine points and Eamonn Kenah recorded 10 rebounds, providing solid support across the board.
