CHICAGO – The University of Chicago track & field teams put together a dominant showing at the UAA Indoor Championships, with the men's team securing the conference title and the women's team earning a runner-up finish at Henry Crown Fieldhouse.
The men's team captured the UAA Indoor Championship behind standout performances across multiple events. Aryan Shrivastava was a key contributor, winning both the high jump and triple jump to add valuable points to the Maroons' total. Simon Dixon swept the throws, taking first place in both the shot put and weight throw. On the track, Andrew Ray raced to victory in the 400m and secured a runner-up finish in the 60m hurdles. The Maroons capped off the meet with a strong finish in the 4x400m relay, as Nathaniel Stuit, Isaac Dienstag, Benjamin Showman, and Ray crossed the line in 3:20.60 to win the event and lock in the team championship.
Several other Maroons contributed with top three finishes, including Imran Serifovic who placed second in the high jump, Seyi Kadiri, placed third in both the long jump and triple jump, and Sanju Patel, who took third in the 5000m.
On the women's side, UChicago put together an impressive meet, finishing second overall with record-breaking performances leading the way. Ren Brown had a historic weekend, setting a UAA and facility record in the 60m hurdles in 8.54 while also winning the 400m. In the distance events, Evelyn Battleson-Gunkel dominated with victories in both the 5000m and 3000m, while Claudia Harnett secured first place in the mile. The Maroons also shined in the relays, as the distance medley relay team of Nora Holmes, Onese Ewherido, Elisabeth Camic, and Harnett set a facility record 11:50.96 to take the title.
Additional strong performances came from Celeste Taylor, who placed second in the pole vault, and Marina Semple, who secured second in the long jump. The women's 4x400m relay team of Sharona Schwab, Ewherido, Ava Hagwell, and Brown also took second place to close out the meet. Gabri Meschino had a strong showing in the sprints, finishing third in the 60m dash, while Emma Kelly, Nora Holmes, and Estelle Snider each recorded third place finishes to add to the Maroons' team total.
With the UAA Indoor Championships complete, UChicago now turns its focus to the upcoming NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. Several Maroons have already qualified, and others will visit last chance meets and will look to continue their success at the national level.
