MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Chicago Maroons captured the ITA Division III Women's National Team Indoor Championship Title, defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 4-1 in the final on Sunday at the Leftwich Tennis Center.
The Maroons seized early momentum by securing the doubles point with strong performances at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Sylwia and Oliwia Mikos delivered a commanding 6-2 victory at the top spot, while Charlotte Klein and Erica Ekstrand matched that effort with a 6-2 win at No. 3 to clinch the point. The No. 2 pair of Shianna Guo and Lauren Khou led 5-3 before the match was left unfinished.
With a 1-0 lead, UChicago continued its winning ways in singles play. Sylwia Mikos extended the lead at No. 1, claiming a hard-fought 6-1, 7-5 win. Nicole Geller followed with a 6-0, 6-3 performance at No. 2, putting the Maroons one step closer to the championship. At No. 6, Clara Zou delivered the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, sealing UChicago's title run.
CMS secured its lone point at No. 4 singles, while the No. 3 and No. 5 matches remained unfinished in the third set when the Maroons wrapped up the team win.
With the victory, UChicago has now claimed three of the last four ITA Division III Women's National Team Indoor Championships. The Maroons will return to action when they head to Texas for spring break, with matches in Austin and San Antonio.
