DAVENPORT, Fla. - The University of Chicago baseball team cruised to a 12-2 victory over Coe College on Friday afternoon behind an explosive offensive performance and solid pitching. The win marks another impressive outing for the Maroons, who put together a well-rounded game from start to finish.
UChicago wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. Jackson Sliplock kickstarted the offense with a two-RBI double, scoring Braden Jirovec and Max Wiesner to give the Maroons an early 2-0 lead. The offense continued to roll in the fourth when Jack Sharp hit a solo homer, followed by a Richard Lu RBI single, extending the lead to 4-0.
Coe College responded with a home run of their own in the bottom of the fourth, as Jack Allison went deep to put his team on the board, making it 4-1. However, Chicago's offense came roaring back in the fifth, exploding for eight runs. Key contributions came from Max Wiesner, who drove in a run with a single, and Braden Jirov, who added a single to score Richard Lu. The Maroons' aggressive base running and consistent hitting made it a challenging inning for the Kohawks' pitching staff, with UChicago capitalizing on multiple wild pitches and sacrifice flies.
By the time the dust settled after the fifth, UChicago held a commanding 10-2 lead. The Maroons added two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the victory, with Brady Miller and Michael Glad each recording RBI hits.
On the mound, Hayden Leiderman (1-0) was stellar, earning the win after 4.2 innings of work. He allowed just three hits and two earned runs, striking out two and walking none. Landon Brice and Kirk Waller provided solid relief, shutting down the Coe College offense and preserving the victory.
The Maroons' offense was led by Jackson Sliplock, who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and Jack Sharp, who contributed a home run, two RBIs, and two runs. Brady Miller also had a strong performance, going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
