Baseball Completes UAA Sweep of Brandeis with 16-1 Win on Sunday

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The University of Chicago baseball team capped off their first UAA series since 1997 with a four-game sweep of Brandeis on Sunday afternoon as they took down the Judges 16-1 in the series finale.

The UChicago offense scored in five of the seven innings in the game including a single run in each of the first two innings. Max Wiesner brought home a run on a fielder's choice, and Richard Lu added an RBI groundout in the second for a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, UChicago doubled their lead on a two-run home run by Max Wiesner to extend the lead to 4-0. Buck Olson added an RBI double and Richard Lu tallied his second RBI of the game with an RBI single up the middle. After the Judges got a run back, the Maroons quickly doubled their score with six runs in the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 12-1. Jack Sharp and Michael Gladden each ripped RBI singles, and Max Wiesner added his second home run of the game with a three-run blast to give him six RBIs in the game.

The Maroons weren't done in the sixth inning, however, as they added four more runs to stretch the lead to 16-1. Braden Jirovec and Matthew Wills each ripped RBI singles into right field. Then, back to back hit by pitches by Eddie McCarthy and Brady Miller would cap off the 16-1 victory for UChicago.

Braden Jirovec led the team with four hits and three runs scored, and Max Wiesner added the first multi home run game for UChicago since Jack Goldstein on March 30, 2024, exactly one year ago to the day. Erik Rindner, Brady Miller, and Jack Sharp also added multi-hit days for the Maroons.

With the win, the Maroons improve to 16-5 overall and sit atop the UA with a perfect 4-0 record in conference play. UChicago returns to action on Tuesday, April 1, as they host the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks in the team's 2025 home opener.
