CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago baseball team hosts Illinois Tech on Tuesday, April 1, for their 2025 home opener at J. Kyle Anderson Field.

(RV) UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:

* The University of Chicago sits at 16-5 overall and 4-0 in the UAA this season after sweeping Brandeis in their first UAA series since 1997.
* The Maroons outscored Brandeis 43-9 in the series with a pair of run-rule victories in the final two games.
* Drew Bryan was named the UAA Pitcher of the Week after he pitched seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts and just four base runners allowed in the win over Brandeis. He currently sits at 218 career strikeouts which ranks 2nd all-time in UChicago history, just 78 away from the school record.
* Jackson Slipock earned UAA Hitter of the Week honors two weeks ago after he slashed 0.471 / 0.545 / 0,.647 in their four games in Florida. He finished the week going 8-17 at the plate with 3 doubles. 7 runs scored, and 7 RBIs.
* On the season, Braden Jirovec leads the team with a 0.379 batting average, 33 hits, and 31 runs scored.
* Erik Rinder has added a team-high .972 OPS this season with a .359 batting average and 7 extra-base hits.
* Hayden Leiderman has been lights out on the mound this season for the Maroons with a 2.97 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP in his first six starts of the season. Leiderman is boasting a 4.33 K/BB ratio in six games.
* Charlie Hahn and David Flanagan are the lone two relievers to not allow an earned run so far this season. The duo have combined to pitch 8.2 innings in 8 appearances with just 4 hits allowed and 12 total strikeouts.
* Following their mid-week contest with Illinois Tech, the Maroons will return to their home field for games two through five of their nine-game home stand as they host WashU in their first home UAA games since 1997.

ILLINOIS TECH NOTES:

* Illinois Tech enters the mid-week game with a 7-9 record overall and a 3-1 record in the NACC.
* The Scarlet Hawks swept Rockford with 2-1 and 8-7 wins last week.
* Michael Paxson leads the team with a .426 batting average, .517 on-base percentage ,and 1.113 OPS this season.
* Tyler Gutsfeld has a team-high 9 extra-base hits with 4 doubles and 4 home runs out of his 15 hits.
* Cameron Bracewell has been the ace on the hill for the Scarlet Hawks with four starts and 22 strikeouts to lead the team. 
* Following their game with UChicago, the Scarlet Hawks will return to action on April 5 for a doubleheader with Lakeland at 12 PM and 3 PM.

SERIES HISTORY:

* UChicago leads the all-time series 15-3 over Illinois Tech.
* The Scarlet Hawks snapped the ten-game win streak by the Maroons with a 17-10 win last season.
* This will be the first on-campus meeting between these two teams since 2017 with the annual game being played at Rate Field, the home of the Chicago White Sox.
* The two teams will meet again on April 22 at Rate Field for their second meeting of the season.
