ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The University of Chicago men's basketball team had a standout season, and two key players,
Thomas Kurowski and
Joe Berry, were recognized for their performances by being named to the 2024-25 UAA Men's All-Association Basketball Team. Kurowski earned a well-deserved spot on the First Team, while Berry was honored with a place on the Second Team, both showcasing their impressive skills throughout the year.
Thomas Kurowski was a force to be reckoned with this season. Starting and playing in all 25 games, he averaged an impressive 16.1 points per game, totaling 403 points for the season. His offensive consistency was matched by his ability to impact the game in other ways, averaging 5.4 rebounds per game. One of the most memorable moments of Kurowski's season came when he dropped a career-high 34 points against Emory, who were ranked #2 at the time, leading his team to a thrilling win on their home court. Kurowski's all-around game and clutch performances earned him First Team honors and solidified his place as one of the UAA's top players.
Joe Berry, a junior guard, also had an outstanding season. Averaging 12 points per game and totaling 300 points for the year, Berry provided steady leadership and scoring for the Maroons. With 33.2 minutes per game on average, Berry was one of the most dependable players on the floor, always present when his team needed him. His consistent playmaking and ability to step up in key moments helped guide Chicago through a challenging season, earning him a spot on the Second Team.
"The UAA has many really talented basketball players and both Thomas and Joe are clearly worthy of this recognition" noted head coach Mike McGarth. "They had great individual seasons on an NCAA Tournament team. We would not have accomplished what we have without their great play at both ends of the floor. Their abilities both offensively and defensively made us unique this year. More than anything they are great competitors and terrific men who represent the University of Chicago well."
The Maroons' season isn't over yet as they look forward to hosting the first and second rounds of the NCAA DIII Men's Basketball Championship. UChicago is set to face No. 7 Saint John's (MN) on Friday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m.
