CHICAGO - The University of Chicago Maroons showcased their offensive firepower with a resounding 20-6 victory over Saint Benedict in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon. The No. 22 Maroons, now 5-2 on the season, were relentless throughout the game, building a lead early and cruising to the win.
From the opening whistle, UChicago took control. A strong first-quarter offensive burst saw the Maroons rack up 10 goals, with contributions from several players. Peyton McGuire opened the scoring at 14:21, followed by two quick goals from Lulu Hardy, including one unassisted. Evelina Swigart and McGuire both added unassisted goals, and Olivia Escoffery capped off a dominant stretch for the Maroons, making it 7-0 with just under five minutes left in the first quarter. Jill Hooey and Skylar Lienhardt extended the lead, and by the end of the first, UChicago led 10-0.
Saint Benedict fought back in the second quarter but UChicago pened up the second quarter with a goal from Kali Konstantinakos to keep the lead firmly intact at 11-0.
The third quarter saw more of the same as UChicago maintained their dominance. Hardy assisted McGuire on a quick goal, and Jill Hooey added another unassisted score. While Saint Benedict continued to battle, the Maroons' offense was simply too potent, extending the lead to 14-5 heading into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, UChicago poured it on with back-to-back goals from Wynne Boggan.. Swigart, McGuire, and Ella Kodl, and Hardy capped the scoring at 2:50 with a man-up goal off an assist from Jane Chen, completing a 20-6 win.
UChicago's balanced attack was led by Hardy, who finished with five goals and an assist, while McGuire added three goals and two assists. Swigart, Hooey, and Boggan all contributed multiple goals, and several players recorded assists to keep the offense flowing smoothly.
The Maroons' defense, led by a solid effort across the field, limited Saint Benedict's chances and allowed them to control the tempo from start to finish.
With the victory, UChicago continues to build momentum as they look ahead to their next matchup, maintaining their strong form in a dominant showing against Saint Benedict.
