ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Chicago baseball team dropped the series opener at Emory on Friday afternoon with a 10-5 loss to the Eagles.
UChicago struck first in the opening inning of play as
Michael Gladden drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. They then added two more runs in the third inning with another sacrifice fly, this time by
Jackson Slipock, and an RBI single by
Max Wiesner.
After the Eagles leveled the score in the third inning, UChicago wasted no time retaking the lead with two more runs in the fourth inning. After back-to-back singled by
Jack Sharp and
Brady Miller,
Nathan Bae brought home Sharp and
Michael Gladden scored Miller on his second sacrifice fly of the game for a 5-3 advantage.
Emory tied the game at five with runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and the two teams headed to seventh level at five. However, the Eagles rode six singles to five runs in the seventh inning to take the opening game with a 10-5 win.
Nathan Bae,
Michael Gladden, and
Max Wiesner led the Maroons with a pair of hits each in the loss.
With the loss, the Maroons fall to 21-10 on the season and 8-5 in the UAA. The Maroons return to action on Saturday for a doubleheader at 12 PM ET and 3 PM ET.
