#4 Men’s Tennis Sweeps #26 UW-Whitewater

CHICAGO - The #4-ranked University of Chicago men's tennis team extended its stellar season with a commanding 7–0 victory over #26 UW-Whitewater on Saturday afternoon at the XS Tennis Center. The Maroons improved to 19–2 on the season with the win, while the visiting Warhawks dropped to 14–7.

UChicago took control early in doubles play, securing the first point with dominant wins at the top two positions. The duo of Alexander Ekstrand and Derek Hsieh cruised to a 6–1 win at No. 2 doubles, while Andrei Leonov and Pat Otero sealed the point at No. 1 with a 6–4 victory. Despite a setback at No. 3 doubles, the Maroons emerged with a 1–0 lead heading into singles.

The momentum continued into singles, where UChicago swept all six courts without dropping a match. Emil Grantcharov made quick work at No. 2 singles with a 6–2, 6–2 win, followed closely by straight-set victories from Matthew Liew (No. 4), Pat Otero (No. 5), and Jack Wong (No. 6) to clinch the match.

In a pair of tightly contested battles, Derek Hsieh outlasted Tyler Nelson 7–6 (7), 6–1 at No. 3 singles, and Alexander Ekstrand wrapped up the sweep with a gritty 7–5, 7–6 (3)  at the top spot.
