#4 Men's Tennis Advances to UAA Semifinals with 4-0 Win over Rochester

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team rolled to a quick 4-0 opening round win over Rochester on Friday morning to open the UAA Tournament. The Maroons will advance to the UAA Semifinals will they will play the winner of Carnegie Mellon and NYU.

UChicago took the first match of the day with a 6-0 rout by Robert Zhang and Marcus Ekstrand. Then, the Maroons earned the doubles point as Andrei Leonov and Pat Otero brought home a 6-1 win at #1 doubles.

With a 1-0 advance, the match headed to singles play, and the Maroons once again took no time getting on the board. Pat Otero brought home a 6-2, 6-2 win at #5 singles for his second win of the day, and Jack Wong brought the lead to 3-0 as he won 6-3, 6-1 at the #6 singles position.

The match victory was capped off at the top of the lineup as Alexander Ekstrand battled through a tough first set to bring home the 7-5, 6-1 win for the deciding point. All of the other matches were left unfinished as postseason matches are only played until a team reaches four points, but all of the remaining players won the opening set in their matches.

With the win, the Maroons improve to 20-2 on the season and stretch their win streak to seven straight matches. The team returns to the court at 12:30 PM ET on Saturday as they take on the winner of Carnegie Mellon and NYU with a berth in the UAA Championship on the line.
