CHICAGO, Ill. -- The 25th-ranked University of Chicago baseball team returns from their UAA series in Atlanta as they battle the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks in the Southside Showdown at Rate Field, the home of the Chicago White Sox.

#25 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:

* The University of Chicago sits at 23-11 overall and 9-6 in the UAA this season after splitting their weekend doubleheader with the Emory Eagles.
* UChicago is ranked #25 in the D3baseball.com top-25 poll. This is the second consecutive week that the Maroons have been ranked in the top-25 poll after never being ranked in the history of the program.
* Braden Jirovec earned UAA Hitter of the Week honors last week after leading the Maroons at the plate. He finished with week 8-18 with three runs scored and a pair of doubles.
* On the season, Jirovec leads the team with a 0.365 batting average, 46 hits, and 37 runs scored. He also ranks fourth in stolen bases with 55 in his career and 22 in the 2025 season.
* Michael Gladden and Erik Rindner have also added over 40 hits with Gladden leading the team 16 extra-base hits. Rindner leads the team with a 0.470 on-base percentage.
* Rindner sits at 17 career home runs after his long ball on Sunday in Atlanta. He currently sits in a tie for second in school history, trailing only Mark Mosier for the most all-time.
* Max Wiesner has had a breakout freshman campaign for the Maroons. His 44 RBIs in 2025 ranks as the 5th-most in school history, just 13 shy of Mark Mosier's single-season record.
* Drew Bryan currently sits at 232 career strikeouts which ranks 2nd all-time in UChicago history, just 64 away from the school record.
* Russell Kwinter has been lights out on the mound this season for the Maroons with a 2.62 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. Kwinter has struck out 24 batters while walking just four during his freshman campaign.
* Following the Southside Showdown on Monday night, the Maroons will return to their home field to host the New York University Violets in their final home series of the weekend.

ILLINOIS TECH NOTES:

* Illinois Tech enters the mid-week game with a 10-20 record overall and a 6-10 record in the NACC.
* The Scarlet Hawks are just 3-11 in their past 14 games.
* The team has lost five straight games including doubleheader sweeps by Aurora and St. Norbert in NACC play.
* Michael Paxson leads the team with a .379 batting average and .455 on-base percentage this season.
* Tyler Gutzfield joins Paxson as the lone two Illinois Tech players hitting over .300 this season, adding six doubles and 10 home runs.
* Following their game with UChicago, the Scarlet Hawks will return to action on April 23 as they host Concordia-Chicago in another NACC doubleheader.

SERIES HISTORY:

* This will be the 120th all-time meeting between UChicago and Illinois Tech with the Scarlet Hawks leading the all-time series 71-46-2.
* Illinois Tech won the first-ever meeting 9-5 back on May 24, 1941.
* The Maroons took down the Scarlet Hawks 10-4 earlier this month at J. Kyle Anderson Field.
* UChicago has won 11 of the last 12 meetings since 2015 with the lone Illinois Tech win coming in the 2024 Southside Showdown, a 17-10 victory.
