ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team picked up a 4-1 win over #27 NYU on Saturday afternoon to advance to the UAA Championship match. The Maroons will look to win their fourth UAA title in the past six years on Sunday at 8:30 AM ET against #6 Case Western.
Andrei Leonov and
Pat Otero cruised to a 6-3 win in the top spot, and
Markus Ekstrand and
Robert Zhang held on in the three doubles spot with a 7-6(7-5) to clinch the opening point of the match for the Maroons.
In singles play, UChicago did not take long to double their lead as
Pat Otero picked up his second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #6 singles.
Derek Hsieh then added the third point in a 6-2, 6-4 at #3 singles to put the Maroons just one point from the victory.
After the Violets earned their first point at #5 singles,
Ajer Sher closed out the match with a 7-6(7-5), 6-2 win at #4 singles to seal the 4-1 victory.
With the win, the Maroons improve to 21-2 on the season. The team will return to the courts at 8:30 AM ET as they battle #6 Case Western Reserve for the UAA crown.
