PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The University of Chicago baseball team came up short in the rubber match of the three game series at Carnegie Mellon with a 6-3 loss to the Tartans.
The Maroons had the first chance to strike in the third game of the series after back-to-back singles by
Audrey Hui and
Anna Jensen, but both runners would be left stranded in a scoreless second. Carnegie Mellon answered with four runs of their in the second and two more in the third for a quick 6-0 lead.
UChicago answered with three of their own in the fourth inning to cut the lead in half. After a double by
Natalie Antin and a bunt single by
Laila Sims, the Maroons scored their first run with a steal of home by Antin on a first-third play. Then, following another single by
Audrey Hui,
Anna Jensen ripped her second hit oif the day for a two-run double.
The Maroons would get three more baserunners in the final three innings, but they were unable to push another run across in a 6-3 loss to the Tartans.
Audrey Hui,
Anna Jensen, and
Natalie Antin all recorded multi-hit games in the loss.
Paige Heffke got the loss on the mound after throwing a complete game with three strikeouts.
With the loss, the Maroons fall to 12-12 on the season, the team returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to UW-Whitewater to battle the Warhawks in a non-conference doubleheader.
