CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's tennis team took down #55 North Central (IL) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon to advance to their 14th consecutive Regional Final.
The Maroons were firing on all cylinders in doubles play as they picked up the doubles point in short order.
Charlotte Klein and
Oliwia Mikos combined to pick up a 6-0 win over the #7 team in the Central Region. Then,
Shianna Guo and
Sylwia Mikos locked up the doubles point with a 6-1 win at the #2 doubles position. The #3 doubles team of
Clara Zou and
Lauren Khou held a 5-1 lead prior to the doubles point being clinched.
In singles play, it was the bottom of the UChicago lineup that took control and dominated their matches.
Shianna Guo earned her second win of the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles.
Isabelle Chong added a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 singles to give the Maroons a 3-0 lead. Then,
Oliwia Mikos provided the clinching win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #4 singles. The Maroons also won the first set at each of the other singles positions prior to the match being clinched.
With the win, the Maroons improve to 21-1 on the season and extend their winning streak to 32 consecutive wins over Division III opponents. UChicago will take on #18 Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday at 12 PM with a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals on the line.Â
