Five Baseball Student-Athletes Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago baseball team placed five student-athletes on the CSC Academic All-District Team, as released by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday afternoon. The five student-athletes earning Academic All-District honors include Drew Bryan, Michael Gladden, Braden Jirovec, Hayden Leiderman, and Kirk Waller.

Drew Bryan earned CSC Academic All-District honors after capping off one of the most impressive pitching careers in UChicago baseball history. In 2025, Bryan finished the year with a 4-3 record in 13 appearances with a 5.86 ERA in 55.1 innings. He also struck out 59 batters while holding opponents to just a 0.239 batting average against him. The Sanford, North Carolina native finishes his career ranked 2nd in program history with 19 wins, 247 strikeouts, and a 3.63 ERA. His 29 starts and 190.1 innings pitched also rank top-10 in program history for a career. The economics and political science major also broke the single-season record with 89 strikeouts in 2023 and a 0.00 ERA in 2021.

Michael Gladden brought home 2nd-Team All-Region honors from D3baseball.com and 3rd-Team All-Region honors from the ABCA after a breakout season for the junior. Gladden finished his season leading the team in several offensive categories, and he broke the school record with 54 runs scored on the year. The River Forest, Illinois native also ranked top-10 in school history with 61 hits, 6 home runs, 16 doubles, 21 stolen bases, and 47 RBIs. He is also the first Maroon in the program's history to swipe 20 or more bags without being caught in a single season.

Braden Jirovec added 3rd-Team All-Region honors from the ABCA after being named the Team MVP this season. The Dallas, Texas native had another outstanding season, leading the team in batting average, hits, runs, and triples. He also broke the school record with 71 hits and 54 runs in a single season, and he ranked second in program history with 30 stolen bases. He enters his senior season ranked second in school history with 63 career stolen bases and tenth in school history with 6 career triples.

Hayden Leiderman took his spot on the CSC Academic All-District team after finishing the 2025 season with a 5-3 record and a 5.76 ERA in his 12 appearances. The Business Economics and Data Science major held his opponents to a .280 batting average with 42 strikeouts in 50.0 innings while starting 10 games, the fifth-most in program history. The Port Washington, New York native caps off his career with the sixth-most appearances in UChicago history with 44 games on the mound.

Kirk Waller earned CSC Academic All-District honors after helping lead the UChicago bullpen in their historic season. Waller made 19 pitching appearances with a 3-0 record and a 4.08 ERA, and he held his opponents to a .235 batting average while striking out 24 batters. The Houston, Texas native caps off his career with the second-most pitching appearances in the history of UChicago baseball with 57 pitching appearances. The Business Economics major also ranked top-4 in program history for single-season appearances with 19 in 2025 and 17 in 2024.

The baseball team capped off their season with one of the best years in the history of the UChicago baseball program. The team won a program-record 29 games and reached their first NCAA Tournament in program history. The Maroons reached Game 7 of the Regional before falling to UW-Oshkosh in the winner-take-all game.

CSC Academic All-District Team honorees are chosen by the national organization based on combined academic and athletic accomplishments.  Nominees must have a GPA above 3.50 in at least the sophomore year, and they must have either played in 90% or started 66% of their team's games. Gladden and Jirovec have also earned a spot on the Academic All-America ballot which will be voted on by sports information directors around the country. The 2025 Academic All-America team will be announced on Tuesday, July 1.
