AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Chicago senior
Ren Brown wrapped up a remarkable collegiate career as one of the most accomplished athletes in program history by earning 2nd-Team CSC Academic All-American honors, as announced by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday morning.
A psychology major from Naples, Florida, Brown was a 10-time All-American, including eight 1st-Team honors and a pair of national championships in the 2025 Indoor Distance Medley Relay and the 2025 Outdoor 400-meter Hurdles. She qualified for 17 NCAA Championship events over four years, placing in the top 10 in 10 of those appearances. In UAA competition, Brown amassed 23 UAA point-scoring performances and claimed 13 UAA titles.
The 2025 season marked a career peak for Brown as she delivered dominant performances across both the indoor and outdoor campaigns. She earned six All-American honors that year alone, winning national titles in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 11:37.62 and the 400m Hurdles with a time of 58.55, while finishing 2nd in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 13.77 and placing in the top 12 in the 400m Hurdles and 60m Hurdles during the Indoor Championships. Brown also captured four individual UAA titles in 2025 and helped UChicago's 4x400m Relay to a 3rd-place finish at the UAA Championships. She was named the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year and earned seven All-Region honors during her senior campaign.
Throughout her career, Brown rewrote the Maroons' record books. She holds six school records, including the fastest times in the 60m Hurdles (8.54), 400m Dash (56.15), and Distance Medley Relay (11:31.24) during the indoor season and the 400m Dash (54.90), 100m Hurdles (13.85), and 400m Hurdles (57.85) during the outdoor season. She ranks among UChicago's all-time top 10 in 18 different events and contributed to multiple record-setting relay squads. Brown also earned 19 All-Region honors over her career, further solidifying her legacy as one of the most accomplished athletes to ever represent UChicago track and field.
Brown is the 10th Academic All-American in program history and the first since 2022 as she helped extend the University of Chicago streak to 10 consecutive calendar years and 14 of the past 15 calendar years with an Academic All-American, dating back to 2011. She also improves the number of Academic All-Americans in 2025 to ten for the Maroons, joining three men's swimmers, two women's swimmers, one women's tennis player, and three men's tennis players. The 10 Academic All-Americans so far in 2025 are the second-most in a single calendar year in the history of UChicago athletics, trailing only 11 in 2020 and tying 2022 with 10.
