The University of Chicago volleyball team will open the 2025 season at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Bloomington, Illinois. The three-match tournament begins Friday night with a single contest against Greenville, followed by a Saturday doubleheader starting at 10 AM against Earlham and #19 Illinois Wesleyan.
#20 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:

UChicago enters the 2025 season ranked #20 in the AVCA Preseason Poll, its highest preseason ranking since being tabbed #9 in 2021.
* The Maroons are coming off a 25-11 record in 2024. The 25 wins were the most in a single season under Head Coach McPartland
and the program's highest total since going 28-4 in 2019.
* UChicago reached the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in the past seven seasons, defeating Centre
3-1 before falling to UW-Oshkosh in the second round.
* Saturday's matchup
with No. 19 Illinois Wesleyan marks the first top-20 showdown on opening weekend for the Maroons since 2021, when the #9 Maroons swept #18 Saint Benedict 3-0.
* The 2025 freshman class features seven newcomers from five states, including two from the Chicago suburbs and two from Miami, Florida.
* Hillary Cheung returns after ranking top-six in the UAA last season with 50 service aces and 646 assists.
* Diya Mishra ranked top-10 in the UAA with 333 kills and 3.03 per set in 2024. She also ranks top-10 among all active Division III players with 289 career blocks and 0.89 career blocks per set, and she has added 812 career kills, which ranks 32nd nationally among active players.
* Thalita Marangon led the team with 381 digs last season, ranking ninth in the UAA.
* After the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, UChicago
returns home to host the Rosalie Resch Invitational on September 5 and 6, facing #22 UW-Eau
Claire, Lawrence, and Illinois Tech.
GREENVILLE NOTES:

Greenville went 21-10 in 2024, winning the SLIAC Tournament before falling to #2 Hope in the NCAA Tournament.
* The Panthers excelled defensively, averaging 14.9 digs per set and adding 2.28 aces per set.
* Junior Abby Grohmann returns as the top offensive threat after recording 414 kills and 3.60 kills per set last year.
* Setter Emma Ratermann also returns after surpassing 1,000 assists in 2024.
* This will be the first-ever meeting between UChicago
and Greenville.
* Following the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, Greenville will head to DePauw
for four matches against Trine, Muskingum, Dominican (Ill.), and the host Tigers.
EARLHAM NOTES:

Earlham posted a 13-14 record and a 6-3 record in the HCAC in 2024, reaching its sixth straight HCAC Tournament under Head Coach Lauren Horton.
* The Quakers return two all-conference players in Caylee Brandes and Madison Bizjak.
* Brandes led with 296 kills and a .205 hitting percentage, while adding 55 total blocks and 16 solo blocks.
* Bizjak anchored the back row with 443 digs, 4.71 digs per set, and 26 aces, finishing with a .950 reception percentage on 323 attempts.
* This will be the first-ever meeting between UChicago
and Earlham

* Earlham will travel to DePauw
on Tuesday, following the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.
#19 ILLINOIS WESLEYAN NOTES:

Illinois Wesleyan is ranked #19 nationally after finishing 24-10 overall and 8-0 in CCIW
play in 2024.
* The Titans won the CCIW Tournament with a 3-2 victory over #10 Millikin
, then advanced to the NCAA second round by defeating Franklin & Marshall before falling to Marietta.
* Illinois Wesleyan hit .187 as a team in 2024, averaging 12.9 kills per set while holding opponents to 10.5. They also averaged 2.0 aces per set and 17.0 digs per set.
* Senior Taylor French returns as a CCIW all-conference selection after producing 506 kills and 36 blocks last season.
* The UChicago
–Illinois Wesleyan series stands at 11-9 in favor of the Maroons, and UChicago
swept the most recent meeting in Hyde Park in 2024.
* After hosting the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, the Titans travel to Texas to face Texas Lutheran, Puget Sound, and Southwestern (TX).
