Summer Spotlight: LJ Moore

8/6/2025 11:16:00 AM

CHICAGO - Welcome to the third edition of the UChicago Athletics' summer spotlight series, where we highlight how some of our student-athletes are keeping busy over the summer break! For our next spotlight we have rising sophomore LJ Moore of men's basketball. Moore is spending the summer as a dental practice M&A intern at King's Ransom Group (KRG).

To learn more about how our student-athletes are spending their summer, we reached out to members of UChicago's athletic community with a brief set of questions. Our aim was to capture a snapshot of their off-season experiences—whether they're interning, traveling, training, or taking time to recharge. We sent the questions via email, asking athletes to share highlights of their summer plans, how they're staying connected to their sport, and any personal goals they're working toward.
  1. Name, Class Year, and Sport:
LJ Moore, 2028, Basketball
  1. What are you doing this summer? (Internship, research, training, etc.)
I'm a M&A intern at KRG. As a Dental Practice M&A Intern at King's Ransom Group (KRG), I support the leadership team on deal sourcing and transaction execution in the dental industry. My work includes identifying and qualifying dental practice owners interested in selling, leveraging my network to generate new deal flow, and participating in the M&A process once practices are engaged with KRG.
  1. Where are you doing it, and what's your role/project?
I am doing it remotely, and I evaluate businesses and sit in on meetings to learn more about the process.
  1. What's been the most exciting or rewarding part of the experience so far?
The most rewarding part to me has been learning from the founders and my conversations with them about how to approach my career journey.
  1. How has your experience as a UChicago student-athlete helped you this summer?
By being a UChicago student-athlete, it has been helpful in the interview as it stands out on the application process.
  1. How are you staying connected to your sport or preparing for next season?
I work out and prepare my body for when we start preparing as a team for next year. I also talk to my teammates and coaches to stay connected with them while I'm away.
  1. What's one fun or memorable thing you've done this summer outside of work/training?
One fun or memorable thing this summer was when I visited family in Florida and went to the beach.
  1. What are you most looking forward to this coming school year?

I am most looking forward to the season this year because I feel like we have a strong opportunity to make a deep run in the tournament this year.

Keep an eye out for our next Summer Spotlight series!
