Women's Soccer Set for Home Opener on Wednesday

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's soccer team gears up for their 2025 home opener taking on Wheaton (IL) on Wednesday afternoon at 4 PM.  * The Maroons enter the weekend with a 2-0 record on the season after picking up a pair of shutout wins over East Texas Baptist (6-0) and UC Santa Cruz (1-0) in the opening weekend.
* UChicago is 19-20-5 all-time against Wheaton, but the Maroons have won five consecutive meetings with the Thunder, outscoring their opponents 13-0 in those five games.
* The Maroons are looking for their third consecutive shutout to start the season for the first time since 2021 when they outscored their opponents 49-0 in the first 8 games of the year.
* UChicago will look to reach their 11th NCAA Tournament in the past 12 seasons with their lone miss since 2013 coming in 2022.
* The Maroons reached their second Sectional Final in the past four years last year with wins over Lawrence, #16 Calvin, and #5 Messiah before falling to the eventual national champions, #1 WashU.
* Kate Bruntlett earned UAA Offensive Player of the Week honors on the opening weekend after the freshman tallied three goals in the first two games of her collegiate career.
* Berkeley Hedgspeth added multiple assists in her collegiate debut in the win over East Texas Baptist.
* Karena Shah, Kamiryn Braxton Grimes, Avery Gallucci, and Cate Brown have also found the back of the net this season.
* After Wednesday's game, the Maroons will return to their home field to battle (RV) Calvin on Saturday at 1 PM.

WHEATON (IL) NOTES: 

* The Thunder are off to a strong start in 2025 with a 3-0-1 overall record.
* Wheaton (IL) has recorded shutouts in three of its four matches, outscoring opponents 5-1, with its only blemish a 1-1 draw against UW-Eau Claire.
* Freshman goalkeeper Leah Roe has played every minute between the posts, making 15 saves on 49 shots faced.
* Junior forward Lily Lindquist leads the attack with two goals in 280 minutes of action.
* Following Wednesday's matchup with UChicago, the Thunder will travel to Greencastle, Indiana, to face DePauw on Saturday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY:

* This will be the 45th meeting between UChicago and Wheaton in women's soccer with the Thunder holding a 20-19-5 advantage.
* The Maroons are currently on a five-game winning streak against the Thunder, including a 2–0 victory in their most recent matchup in September 2024.
* The Maroons have outscored the Thunder 13-0 in the past five games, and they have gone 483 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal to the Thunder.
* UChicago holds a 12–8–2 record at home against Wheaton and will look to extend that advantage in Wednesday's contest.
