CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago football team opens Midwest Conference play on Saturday, September 13, when the Maroons travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa to take on the Cornell (IA) Rams.
UCHICAGO NOTES:
* UChicago enters the weekend with an 0-1 record on the season after falling to #18 Carnegie Mellon 20-0 in the season opener.
* The Maroons are coming off a 6-4 season in 2024 in which they finished 6-3 in Midwest Conference play, bringing home a 4th-place finish in the league.
* One of the two head coaches in the game will pick up their first career win with
Craig Knoche and Curt Ritchie each coming up short in their collegiate coaching debuts.

Walter Kilgore is the lone returning 1st-Team All-MWC player for the Maroons after the kicker had a breakout freshman season. Kilgore went 9-15 on field goals with three field goals over 40 yards and a career-long of 51 yards.

Stirling Sakashita earned 2nd-Team All-MWC honors for the Maroons last season after recording 27 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and 3 interceptions in the secondary.

Cole Ostendorf and
Hugh Rolls led the UChicago defense last week with 8 tackles. Ostendorf added a tackle for loss, and Rolls forced a fumble, one of the two takeaways for the Maroons on Saturday.

Tad Tan earned MWC Special Team Player of the Week honors last week after punting the ball 9 times for 336 yards. He recorded a 61-yard punt with the Maroons backed up in their own endzone.
* Following their MWC opener against the Rams, the Maroons will return to Hyde Park to take on the Illinois College Blueboys on Saturday, September 20 at 1 PM.
CORNELL (IA) NOTES:Â
* Cornell (IA) enters the weekend 0-1 on the season after the Rams fell to (RV) Coe 62-6 in the season opener.
* The Rams struggled on the offensive end of the field in the season opener, gaining just 135 yards of offense compared to the 584 for Coe.
* Cornell (IA) rushed the ball 30 times for 59 yards with Trey Anderson leading the way with 35 yards.
* Thomas Monken led the Rams through the air with 54 yards on 10-18 passing.
* Freshman BooBoo Browning scored the lone Cornell touchdown in the loss to Coe on a 7-yard touchdown run.
* Rommel Pinner provided an impact in the return game with 141 kick return yards for an average of 17.6 yards per return.
* Zavion Jordan and Logan Johnson led the Rams defense with 8 and 6 tackles, respectively.
* Cornell (IA) returns to action on Saturday, September 20 as they travel to Lawrence to take on the Vikings.
