Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Harrison-Caldwell Late Winner Pushes #11 Women's Soccer Past Calvin

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's soccer team remained perfect on the season with a 2-1 victory over (RV) Calvin on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.

UChicago opened the game with all of the momentum as they put the Knights on their heels with shot after shot in the Calvin field.

The Maroons controlled the opening 45 minutes, putting the Knights under constant pressure. UChicago outshot Calvin 15-0 in the first half, but the visitors' goalkeeper produced several saves to keep the game scoreless.

The breakthrough finally came on the Maroons' 15th attempt, as freshman forward Kate Bruntlett pounced on a loose ball in the box and slotted it into the bottom right corner for a 1-0 lead. It marked her fifth goal of the season, and she became the first Maroon since Hanna Watkins in 2019 to score in four consecutive matches .

The momentum shifted in the second half, with Calvin creating more chances in search of an equalizer. The Knights nearly leveled the score in the 54th minute when a long-range effort rattled off the crossbar. The tying goal did arrive in the 66th minute, as Mid Judd finished a scramble in the box to hand UChicago its first goal allowed of 2025.

With both sides pushing for a winner, Lucy Harrison-Caldwell stepped up with a long-range strike in the 78th minute. Her shot from outside the 18-yard box deflected off the post and into the net, securing her second career goal — and first career game-winner — to seal the Maroons' 2-1 triumph.

In goal, Sophia Sasaki made two saves while also commanding her box to preserve the result. Indira Naylor led the Maroon attack with four shots, while Harrison-Caldwell and Avery Gallucci added three apiece.

With the win, the Maroons improve to 4-0 on the season. #11 UChicago will be back in action on Wednesday, September 17 as they travel to North Park to battle the Vikings.
