Women's Volleyball Battles St. Olaf on Friday in First Trip to Minnesota Since 2017

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's volleyball team will return to the road this weekend as they head to Minnesota for the St.Olaf/ Carleton Tournament. * UChicago enters the weekend with a 4-5 record on the season after back to back 1-2 weekends. The Maroons beat #8 Hope last weekend before falling to #5 La Verne and #3 UW-Oshkosh.
* The Maroons have played five top-20 teams this season through their first nine games, and they have compiled a 1-4 record in those contests.
* Friday's win over #8 Hope is the 14th ranked win in the Coach McPartland tenure for the Maroons, but it is the first top-10 win by UChicago since taking down #9 UW-Whitewater in five sets in 2022.
* Diya Mishra sits at 965 career kills and is just 35 kills away from being the 13th UChicago player in program history to record 1,000 career kills.
* Last Friday, Mishra became the first player since Maggie McInerney in 2023 to record 20+ kills and 15+ digs in a single match. Mishra recorded 21 kills and 17 digs in the five-set win over #8 Hope College.
* Olivia Zamis has been a menace on the front line for the UChicago defense, leading the team with 35 blocks and 0.95 blocks per set.
* Ellie Maxwell has had an excellent freshman season, leading the team with 156 assists, 15 service aces, and 4 double-doubles through her first nine career matches.
* After taking on St. Olaf on Friday, the Maroons will travel across town to Carleton to take on Macalester and Carleton on Saturday morning.

ST. OLAF NOTES: 

* St. Olaf enters the weekend at 5-6 on a one-game win streak after sweeping Loras at the Loras Invitational last weekend. 
* Morgan Ryan has lead the Oles this season. The senior already has 247 kills and is aaveraging 6.02 a set. She was also named the MIAC Athlete of the Week after her performance in the KTIS Classic.
* Mehsa Krause leads the offense for St. Olaf. With 107 kills, Krause has recorded a .148 attack percentage in her 41 sets played. 
* Setter Paige Christophersen has also made a huge impact for the Oles. Averaging 5.44 assists per set, Christophersen has tallied up 232 on the year. She also has recorded 17 service aces. 
* Following Friday's match with the Maroons, St. Olaf will take on Wartburg College and UW- Whitewater on Saturday afternoon. 

SERIES HISTORY:

* This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the Maroons and the Oles. 
* UChicago has taken home the victory in all three prior matchups, including a 3-1 win in 2024.
* Thalita Marangon led both teams with 12 kills in the 2024 matchup. She had a .320 attacking percentage while also tallying up nine digs. 
* This weekend marks  the first trip to Minnesota that the Maroons have made since opening the 2017 season at the Saint Mary's (MN) Invitational in Winona, Minnesota.

* Hillary Cheung - 13th in Assists (886)
* Diya Mishra - 3rd in Assisted Blocks (249), 9th in Total Blocks (300), and 10th in Hitting Percentage (.253)
