Volleyball Opens UAA Play in Atlanta

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's volleyball team will open up conference play this weekend as they travel to Atlanta, Georgia for three matches at the first UAA Round Robin. The Maroons continue their tough stretch of matches to open the season with two more matches against teams receiving votes in the AVCA poll.

(RV) UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:

* UChicago enters the first UAA Round Robin on Saturday with a 5-7 overall after snapping their four-match skid with a 3-0 win over Carleton to wrap up last weekend.
* The Maroons dropped two of three for the third consecutive weekend last weekend as they fell to St. Olaf and Carleton before taking down Carleton in the final match.
* UChicago has played five top-20 teams this season through their first nine games, and they have compiled a 1-4 record in those contests.
* The win over #8 Hope earlier this season is the 14th ranked win in the Coach McPartland tenure for the Maroons, but it is the first top-10 win by UChicago since taking down #9 UW-Whitewater in five sets in 2022.
* Diya Mishra became the 13th player in program history to  supass 1,000 career kills. She sits at 1,007 for her career as she looks to continue to climb into the top-10.
* Earlier this season, Mishra became the first player since Maggie McInerney in 2023 to record 20+ kills and 15+ digs in a single match. Mishra recorded 21 kills and 17 digs in the five-set win over #8 Hope College.
* Olivia Zamis has dominated the defensive front line as she is leading the team with 37 blocks and 0.85 blocks per set.
* Ellie Maxwell has had an excellent freshman season, leading the team with 191 assists, 19 service aces, and 4 double-doubles on the year.
* After taking on Rochester and NYU, the Maroons will battle #5 WashU on Sunday morning to wrap up the weekend.

ROCHESTER NOTES: 

* Rochester enters the weekend with a 2-8 record overall on the season.
* The Yellowjackets are coming of their second win of the year, taking down Nazareth University Tuesday night.
* Rylee Bergeron leads the team in kills this year. With 93 on the year, the senior is averaging 3.58 a set. She's also collected six service aces in the 26 sets she's played.
* With 124 assists on the year, McKenzie McDonald has been an all-start for Rochester this year. She's averaging 3.76 assists per set and has also collected 154 digs on defense.
* Sancia Williams and Paige Stephenson are leading the defensive effort by the Yellowjackets. The duo have each acquired 13 blocks on the year.
* Following their match with UChicago and WashU on Saturday, they'll face NYU early Sunday morning.

(RV) NYU NOTES: 

* The Violets enter Atlanta 7-4 on the weekend.
* NYU is currently on a two-game win streak after taking down Smith College and Swarthmore in the Ithaca College Invitational last weekend. 
* Grace Nelson leads the Violets with 114 kills on the year on a 3.00 kill/set average. Nelson has played a total of 38 sets and is currently hitting at a .227 hitting percentage. 
* With already 237 assists on the year, Ava Launsbach has been an ace for the team. In addition, the senior has collected 16 aces on the year. 
* Defensively, the Violets have two blockers already with 28 total blocks. Jessica Spierenburg and Coco Barton are defending the net at .78 blocks/ set. 
* Following their match with UChicago, NYU will prepare for Rochester on Sunday morning to closeout their UAA roadtrip. 

SERIES HISTORY:

* The Maroons have a 41-7 victory margin over the Yellowjackets.
* UChicago is currently on a 26-game win streak over Rochester.
* In the last match, Diya Mishra led all teams with 14 kills and six digs.  
* This is Chicago's first time playing Rochester in Georgia since 2017.
* Chicago and NYU sit at a 16-20 in all time meetups. 
* Though the Violets have the upper hand in wins, the Maroons took the last match, 3-2, with a commanding performance by Mishra with 23 kills.
