ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- University of Chicago senior Diya Mishra was named the University Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the association office on Monday afternoon.
Mishra came up huge for the Maroons as her 21 kills, 19 digs, and 5 service aces helped UChicago take down #5 WashU in a five-set thriller. She finished just one dig shy of the first 20-20 game by a UChicago player since Maya Patel in 2022. The win over #5 WashU is the fourth top-5 win in the Coach McPartland era and the first since taking down #5 Calvin in 2022.
Overall for the week, the Biological Sciences major from Seattle, Washington tallied 46 kills with a .243 hitting percentage, and she led the team with 10 service aces and 32 digs in three matches.
The Player of the Week award is the first of the season third of the career for Mishra.
Mishra and the rest of the UChicago women's volleyball team will return to action on Saturday, October 4, as they look to take down their second consecutive top-5 opponent as they travel to Wisconsin to battle #4 UW-Whitewater.
