#22 Volleyball Hosts #20 UW-Eau Claire to Open Rosalie Resch Invitational

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's volleyball team opens their home slate on Friday night as they host the #20 UW-Eau Claire Blugolds in the opening game of the Rosalie Resch Invitational. The Maroons will return on Saturday  * UChicago comes into the weekend with a 2-1 record on the season after picking up wins over Greenville and Earlham before falling to #19 Illinois Wesleyan.
* The Maroons recorded a reverse sweep in the five-set win over Earlham after dropping the first two sets. The reverse sweep was the first for a UChicago team since their win over Texas Lutheran in the NCAA Tournament in 2022.
* Friday's match with #20 UW-Eau Claire will be the second top-25 match of the season for the Maroons. This marks the first time in program history that UChicago has taken on multiple top-25 teams in the first four games of a season.
* Diya Mishra led the offensive attack for the Maroons on the opening weekend with 56 kills and a .227 hitting percentage. Her 25 kills in the five-set win over Earlham are a career-high and tied for the most in a single match for a UChicago player in the Coach McPartland era.
Ellie Maxwell opened the season with back-to-back double-doubles in her first two career matches. She recorded 18 assists and 14 digs against Greenville and 22 assists and 12 digs against Earlham.
* Maxwell also recorded 6 service aces in the five-set win over Earlham. Her 6 service aces are the most by a UChicago player since Maya Patel in 2021.
Thalita Marangon recorded 31 digs in the five-set win over Earlham. She became the first Maroon to record 30+ digs in a match since Kennedy Cheung against Case Western in 2023.
Olivia Zamis tallied 7 blocks in her collegiate debut in the 3-1 win over Greenville. She is the first Maroon with 7+ blocks in a match since Jillian Amsler in 2023.
* After taking on #20 UW-Eau Claire on Friday, the Maroons will return to action in Hyde Park with matches against Lawrence and Illinois Tech on Saturday.

#20 UW-EAU CLAIRE NOTES: 

* UW-Eau Claire enters the weekend with a 3-1 record overall after their trip to Colorado College for the Pikes Peak Challenge.
* The Blugolds dropped their season opener to #14 East Texas Baptist in five sets before taking down (RV) Colorado College, MSOE, and Edgewood.
* UW-Eau Claire comes in ranked #20 in the AVCA poll after the opening weekend.
* Abby Stanwood earned WIAC Player of the Week honors after recording 52 kills, 4.73 kills per set, and a .327 hitting percentage.
* Hannah Thole and Alex Kiebel facilitated the Blugolds attack all weekend with 78 and 73 assists. Kiebel also led the team with 10 service aces.
* Lili Hagg and Bailey Leeke each added double-digit blocks with 17 and 10.
* Following Friday's match with the Maroons, UW-Eau Claire will take on Lawrence at 11 AM and Illinois Tech at 1:30 PM to wrap up the invitational.

SERIES HISTORY:

* This will be the first-ever meeting between the Maroons and the Raiders in men's soccer.
* UChicago holds a 59-40-10 all-time record against schools in the NACC with the most wins coming against Benedictine-IL (13), Aurora (13), and Illinois Tech (7).
* The Maroons are 5-1 all-time against schools from the city of Milwaukee including Lakeland (2-0), Wisconsin Lutheran (3-0), and UW-Milwaukee (0-1).
