GRINNELL, Iowa -- University of Chicago junior punter Tad Tan was named the Midwest Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Tan was outstanding on Saturday and played a pivotal role in limiting #18 Carnegie Mellon's potent offense to just 20 points by flipping the field possession on all nine of his punts.

The economics major from Tulsa, Oklahoma, punted nine times for 336 yards, averaging 37.3 yards per punt. His biggest boot of the day was a 61-yard punt out of his own end zone after penalties pushed the Maroons back to their 3-yard line. His 336 total punting yards were also the most by a UChicago punter in more than 15 years.

The honor marks the first weekly award of Tan's career. He also becomes the first UChicago football player to earn MWC Player of the Week accolades since Will Goodman in 2023.

Tan and the Maroons return to action on Saturday, September 13, when they travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa, to take on Cornell College in their Midwest Conference opener.
