March 14, 2025
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Chicago captured first indoor track and field national championship. The team of Nora HolmesRen BrownEmma Kelly, and Claudia Harnett won the first-ever NCAA Championship in a relay event in UChicago track and field history, and it is just the third indoor track and field championship for the Maroons in the past 25 years.

The relay team's victory marked the 30th NCAA individual championship in the school's Division III era. The group of Maroons won the Distance Medley Relay title with a time of 11:37.62 for the tenth National Championship in women's track and field program history.

In the race, Holmes and Brown shot the Maroons out of a cannon in the opening two legs of the race as it became a two-horse race between the University of Chicago and MIT. Kelly continued to run strong for UChicago as the Engineers and the Maroons continued to trade the lead throughout the 800m Run portion of the relay. In the final leg, Harnett sat in second place for the majority of her mile run, but she was just biding her time as she took the lead and cruised to a victory and a National Championship.
