Maroons Rally to Defeat North Central 25-16

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Trailing by 10 points after six bouts, the University of Chicago wrestling team rallied for a 25-16 win over host North Central College in dual match competition Friday evening.

  • The Maroons trailed 16-6 after six bouts as freshman Willie Long (Willoughby, Ohio/ St. Ignatius) and junior Josh Hotta (Oceanside, Calif./ Vista) won by decision at 133 and 149, respectively.

  • A major decision by freshman Ryley Hankenson (Decatur, Ind./ Bellmont) at 174 and a decision by sophomore Sam Pennisi (Lombard, Ill./ Glenbard East) at 184 cut the Maroons' deficit to 16-13.

  • Back to back pins by freshman Mario Palmisano (Willoughby Hills, Ohio/ Willoughby South) at 197 and sophomore Jeff Tyburski (Grosse Ile, Mich./ Grosse Ile) (pictured) at 285 in the night's final two bouts lifted Chicago to the victory.

  • North Central's Andrew Zobac was ranked fifth in the nation at 141 pounds in the most recent NCAA Division III coaches poll. He won his bout by technical fall.

  • Chicago improved to 7-5 in dual meet action. North Central fell to 5-10.
