Box Score 2 CHICAGO -- In its 2012 home debut, the University of Chicago softball team split a doubleheader with Lake Forest College Monday afternoon at Stagg Field. The Maroons took the first game 3-2 before dropping a 1-0 decision in the nightcap.
Game 1 Summary & Highlights
- Senior RHP Sarah Neuhaus (Berkeley, Calif./ Berkeley) (pictured) tossed a complete-game three-hitter as Chicago won Monday's opener 3-2.
- Neuhaus (3-2) held the Foresters without a hit until the fourth inning. She then allowed solo homers to SS Sam Ritsema in the fifth and C Danielle Gore in the seventh.
- Chicago scored twice in the bottom of the second on a two-out, two-run single off the bat of sophomore CF Kaitlyn Carpenter (Des Moines, Iowa/ East), then added what proved to be the decisive run in the third on an RBI single from junior RF Samantha Hobson (Apex, N.C./ Enloe).
Game 2 Summary & Highlights
- CF Nora Logue's solo homer in the top of the sixth off junior RHP Kim Cygan (Lake Barrington, Ill./ Barrington) was the game's only run as Lake Forest (5-9) salvaged the doubleheader split.
- Lake Forest RHP Kelly Chesnut (3-3) scattered four hits to hand Chicago its second shutout defeat of the season.
Notes
- Cygan (6-1) suffered her first loss in her last 10 decisions dating back to last season.
- Chicago fell to 2-5-1 in home openers since 2009.
