ELMHURST, Ill. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Chicago volleyball team went 2-0 in its first day of action at the Elmhurst College Invitational on Friday.
The Maroons began their season with a 3-1 victory over Carroll University by scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 25-10. Chicago served 13 aces in the match. Freshmen Maren Loe made her collegiate debut with 14 kills while Morgan Clark added nine kills. Setter Nikki DelZenero handed out 34 assists and scored four aces. Caroline Brander chipped in seven kills and four aces. Libero Eirene Kim totaled 14 digs.
Chicago won its second match of day over U.S. Coast Guard Academy, also by a 3-1 margin (25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22). Loe contributed offensively and defensively with 16 kills and 17 digs. Brander had 11 kills and six blocks, and Morgan Barry made an impact with 10 kills and three aces. DelZenero tallied 41 assists while Kim led the way with 20 digs.
The Maroons continue action at the Elmhurst Tournament on Saturday with matches at 1 PM and 3 PM.
