GALESBURG, Ill. -- The University of Chicago wrestling team went 2-2 at the Knox College Chuck Porter Duals on Saturday. The Maroons ran their record to 4-3 on the season.
UChicago finished fourth out of the eight teams at the duals. Luther College, ranked No. 15 in NWCA, went 4-0. No. 10-ranked Wabash College and No. 17-ranked Augustana College each went 3-1.
In the first match of the day, UChicago defeated Loras College 21-12 thanks to six-straight wins from 141 pounds through 184 pounds. Joe Ellis picked up a pin at 141 with decision victories by Joeie Ruettiger (149), Devon Range (157), Sam Hopkins (165), Ryley Hankenson (174) and Sam Pennisi (184).
Wabash College topped the Maroons 25-12 in the second matchup. Will Long (133), Hankenson, Pennisi and Mario Palmisano (197) won by decision.
UChicago rebounded with a 47-6 win over the host Knox College. The Maroons won nine-straight matches, with three coming via forfeit. Adam Wyeth (133), Ryan Klein (157) and Hopkins each scored pins. A trio of Maroons won via decision - Alex Moore (141), Jacob Smith (149) and Steven Franke (174). Pennisi, Palmisano and Jeff Tyburski (285) picked up forfeits.
The Maroons finished the day with a 25-15 loss to Augustana College. Palmisano pinned his opponent in the first period. Decision victories came from Ruettiger, Hopkins and Hankenson.
