NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The University of Chicago wrestling team fell behind early and couldn't recover in a 26-12 loss at North Central College on Tuesday.
The Maroons fell to 0-5 in dual meets while the Cardinals improved to 1-0.
North Central started strong by winning five of the first six weight classes. UChicago's first win came courtesy of Charlie Banaszak. The freshman won his seventh-straight match, defeating his opponent 10-6 at 141 pounds.
The Maroons ended up winning three of the final four matches in the higher weights. Sophomore Steven Franke shutout his opponent 2-0 at 174 pounds. Junior Mario Palmisano also earned a decision victory 8-3 at 197 pounds. Senior heavyweight Jeff Tyburski closed out with a 3-2 win at 285 pounds.
