CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago wrestling team finished in second place and came away with three individual champions after hosting the UAA Championship on Saturday. New York University claimed its second-straight team title.

Sophomore Joe Ellis (141 pounds), senior Joeie Ruettiger (149 pounds) and sophomore Devon Range (157 pounds) were all named to the All-Association Team.

In the first dual of the day, NYU defeated Case Western Reserve University 43-6. The Violets won eight weight classes with four pins and two technical falls. The Spartans bookended wins at 125 pounds and 285 pounds.

UChicago then took on Case and came away with a 40-9 victory. The Maroons won the middle eight weight classes and tallied three pins with one technical fall. Case once again earned victories at 125 and 285.

The championship match between the Maroons and the Violets ended in favor of NYU 24-15. The Violets took an early 10-0 lead thanks to a forfeit and a major decision. However, UChicago won the next three matches to pull ahead 12-10. Ellis scored a takedown and near-fall points to pull out a win in the final minute of his match. Ruettiger pinned his opponent in the third period, and Range effectively wore down his competitor 6-4. NYU responded with four-straight wins to clinch the team victory.
