CHICAGO, Ill. -- In the rematch of a January dual, the University of Chicago wrestling team fell to Augustana College 29-11 on Friday.
The Maroons evened their record at 4-4 while the Vikings improved to 14-4. In the last meeting between the two teams, Augustana topped UChicago 25-15 at the Knox College Chuck Porter Duals on January 5.
The Vikings got off to a hot start by winning the first four matches to take a commanding 16-0 lead. James Layton (157 pounds) earned a major decision and Sam Hopkins (165 pounds) also tallied a decision victory for the Maroons. Mario Palmisano (197 pounds) was also dominant with a 12-point margin of victory in his match.
"Going into the dual, I thought we should win at least five of the 10 matches," said Head Coach Leo Kocher. "After the fact, I still feel that way - we should have won five matches. There were a couple of nine-point swings, where we had the lead and ended up getting pinned. We just have to keep working and iron out our mistakes."
