Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. -- The University of Chicago softball team was on the wrong end of a final-inning rally with a 4-3 loss to Eastern Connecticut State University, but the Maroons rebounded with a 10-2 win over Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday.
The Maroons ran their season record to 5-3.
Game One - Eastern Connecticut State 4, UChicago 3
Despite UChicago scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh, Eastern Connecticut State erased the deficit with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the frame and netted the victory with a walk-off double.
After falling behind 1-0 early on, UChicago tied it in the second inning on Zoe Oliver-Grey's single. Eastern led off the third with a homer to recapture the lead, and the Maroons eventually tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth. Kristin Lopez knocked a triple and scored on Jordan Poole's sacrifice fly.
UChicago started the top of the seventh with a pair of singles and went up 3-2 thanks to a passed ball that brought in the runner from third base.
Kim Cygan absorbed the loss in six innings with a pitching line of eight hits, four runs, four walks and two strikeouts. The Maroons ended up with seven total hits and Jacqueline Ryan went 2-for-3 in the batter's box.
Game Two - UChicago 10, Western Connecticut State 2
UChicago kept game two from getting close and used a three-run home run to end the game early via eight-run rule in the sixth inning. The Maroons opened the scoring with gusto when Lopez stole home plate in the second inning. A two-run double by Maddie McManus in the third inning made the score 3-0.
A trio of runs came in the fourth inning to expand the advantage to 6-0. Kathleen Kohm reached third base and scored on a passed ball. Devan Parkison and Ryan followed with a pair of RBI singles.
Western Connecticut State scored two runs in the sixth inning before the Maroons tacked on four more to end the game early. After another passed ball scored a runner, Jordan Poole cranked a three-run homer to cap the day.
Tabbetha Bohac picked up her first victory of the season in the pitching circle. The sophomore threw six innings, allowing 10 hits, two runs, three walks and recording one strikeout. Ryan (one RBI and McManus (two RBI) each went 2-for-3 to account for four of UChicago's 10 hits.
