Box Score 2 AURORA, Ill. -- The University of Chicago softball team dropped a pair of close games at Aurora University 3-2 and 3-1 on Wednesday.
The Maroons fell to 13-13 while the Spartans (29-3) ran their streak to 21-straight victories.
Game One - Aurora 3, UChicago 2 (8 innings)
UChicago took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Kathleen Kohm singled, stole second base and scored on an RBI triple by Maddie McManus.
Despite loading the bases with no outs in the third inning, Aurora was limited to one run on a sacrifice fly to tie the score. The Maroons retook the advantage in the top of the seventh thanks to Jacqueline Ryan's RBI double to left field. However, the Spartans came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and then hit a walk-off RBI single in the eighth to get the win.
UChicago tallied 11 hits, with three hits each from Kohm and Kristin Lopez. McManus added a 2-for-3 performance with one RBI. Pitcher Kim Cygan (6-6) took the loss, throwing 7-2/3 innings with a pitching line of 12 hits, three runs, one walk and one strikeout.
Game Two - Aurora 3, UChicago 1
The home team tallied a pair of RBI singles in the first inning and kept the lead the rest of the way. Aurora led off the fifth inning with a solo homer to score its third run.
In the top of the sixth inning, UChicago loaded the bases with one out. Julia Covello picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice, but the Spartans kept the Maroons from drawing any closer.
Jordan Poole (5-6) was the losing pitcher as the freshman tossed six innings with nine hits, three runs and five strikeouts. UChicago was held to three hits, with one hit each by Poole, Cygan and Raechel Cloud.
