Box Score 2 ELMHURST, Ill. -- The University of Chicago softball team split a doubleheader at Elmhurst College, winning 6-2 and losing 3-2 on Tuesday.
The Maroons ran their record to 18-16 while the Bluejays moved to 17-15.
Game One - UChicago 6, Elmhurst 2
Elmhurst jumped into the lead with a two-run homer in the third inning. UChicago tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning on RBI singles by Raechel Cloud and Kaitlyn Carpenter.
The Maroons went ahead for good with four runs in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Kathleen Kohm delivered a two-run single. Maddie McManus immediately followed with a two-run single of her own.
Kim Cygan (8-8) earned the victory in the pitcher's circle. The senior went six innings, striking out five batters while allowing three hits and two runs. Emily Ashbridge tossed the final inning with one strikeout, one walk and one hit.
UChicago had nine hits in the game, with Carpenter going 4-for-4.
Game Two - Elmhurst 3, UChicago 2
UChicago tallied both of its runs in the first inning. Kohm drove a double down the left field line for the game's first score and McManus brought in the second run with a fielder's choice.
Elmhurst drew to within 2-1 on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and then tied it with an unearned run in the fifth inning. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Bluejays walked off with the win on an RBI single up the middle.
Jordan Poole started the game for the Maroons and pitched 4-1/3 innings with five hits, two runs (one earned), two walks and four strikeouts. Cygan (8-9) took the loss in 2-1/3 innings, striking out three batters while allowing one run on four hits.
The Maroons totaled five hits with one hit each from five different players.
