Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Chicago softball team kept its perfect record intact with a 6-1 victory over Carleton College and a 3-1 win against Calvin College on Tuesday. The Maroons improved their record to 6-0.
Game One – UChicago 6, Carleton 1
UChicago went ahead 3-0 in the second inning and controlled the rest of the game from there. Junior outfielder Raechel Cloud plated the first run with a sacrifice fly, and sophomore outfielder Devan Parkison laid down a squeeze bunt to score the runner from third base. Parkison promptly stole second and third base before coming home on freshman Anna Woolery's RBI single to center field.
The Maroons got some insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning when freshman Maggie O'Hara blasted her first collegiate home run to make the score 5-0. Woolery added an RBI double to right field later in the frame. Carleton scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.
UChicago tallied 12 hits in the game, led by Woolery's 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Senior third baseman Maddie McManus was 2-for-4 and sophomore Jordan Poole went 2-for-2. As a team, the Maroons stole six bases, with Parkison compiling three steals on her own.
Junior pitcher Tabbetha Bohac (3-0) got the win in six innings of work, allowing three hits, one run and three walks with two strikeouts. Freshman Alexa Hanelin tossed the final inning and gave up two hits.
Game Two – UChicago 3, Calvin 1
Calvin led off the game with a double and scored soon after to go up 1-0. It marked the first time in six games that UChicago trailed at any point. The Maroons got the equalizer in the bottom of the third inning after back-to-back triples by senior outfielder Kaitlyn Carpenter and McManus. Sophomore first baseman Kathleen Kohm scored McManus on an RBI groundout to capture the lead at 2-1.
Sophomore Kristin Lopez started the fourth inning with a double and came around to score on a single by senior catcher Zoe Oliver-Grey. The 3-1 lead was all the support that Poole needed in the pitching circle. The sophomore mowed down the Knights with eight strikeouts and only four hits and two walks allowed. She improved to 3-0 on the year.
Offensively, UChicago tallied eight hits, while making one error on defense. Manus and Carpenter both went 2-for-3 in the batter's box.
