CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Chicago men's tennis team opened its weekend home stand with a 7-2 loss to Case Western Reserve University on Friday. The No. 17-ranked Maroons evened their record at 7-7 and the No. 10-ranked Spartans improved to 12-5.
Case won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches handily. The UChicago tandem of junior Ankur Bhargava and sophomore Gordon Zhang picked up one team point with an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, the Spartans took five matches, with Bhargava earning a win for UChicago at No. 2 singles 6-4, 7-5.
"It was a tough one for the guys today," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "Case is a team that really brings the intensity and we had a little trouble with that at first. We can learn to be the ones initiating instead of the ones reacting. We are really looking forward to the next couple days of tennis."
