CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Chicago men's tennis team moved its record back over .500 with a 7-2 victory over Coe College on Saturday. The No. 17-ranked Maroons moved to 8-7 and the Kohawks dropped to 21-5.
In a matchup of regionally-ranked teams, UChicago came out strong with three convincing victories in doubles and continued its sharp play with four wins out of six matches in singles. Junior Deepak Sabada, junior Ankur Bhargava and sophomore Gordon Zhang were victorious in singles and doubles play.
"I was happy to see our doubles come out firing today after a slow start yesterday," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "In singles, we turned it up even more and pulled out some close wins. Deepak took down the third-ranked player in our region, which was huge for him and the team because the team match still hadn't been decided. We are really looking forward to a shot at WashU tomorrow."
